THE CURFEW FOR SYDNEY.
Mrs.' Wihgrove Cook, -press secretary of the New youth Wales National Codncil of Women, / says that the council intends to move in the direction of securing the establishment of the curfew in New South Wales. "It is a mighty evil," she says, "that there are 1 hundreds of young girls and boys hanging about Circular Quay and others parts of the city during the advanced hours of the evening,- especially on Saturdays and Sundays." Any attempt to stop this loitering of young people after dark is often put down as impossible. But it is pointed- out that 5000. towns in America, including Vancouver and San Francisco, have actually made and are now enforcing ordinances prohibiting it. A signal is given at a certain hour—say, 7.45 o'clock; generally the fire-bell is sounded, but sometimes a steam whistle is blown—to warn • children home.
