Joyce with a handsome'travelling bag. Mr. Joj'ce is shortly, to leave for Australia, where he purposes residing-permanently. In making.the presentation, Mr. W. S. Brice, on behalf of the club, spoke in very appreciative terms of the valuable services; rendered to the club,by Mr. Joyce:' "Opportunity - was' also taken to present Mr. Joyce with Mr. Nuttall's medal for the best all-round, field this season.' ..PETONE FIRE .BOARD.'.' A meeting of the Petone Fire. Board was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs. J. \V. M'Ewa'ri (chairman), R.'Mothos, R."\V. Short, J. J. J. Millard, and C. I'earce. The. chairman announced that . Inspector Hugo had recently inspected the brigade, and would forward a. report shortly. ' . The Borough Engineer (Mr. Cook) offered £3 10s. for a disused water motor machine, and the board decided to accept same. A-further report -was received from the borough engineer touching the Petone hall's floor space, and asking. that, the superintendent should also furnish a report in order that licenses could "be issued at once. The superintendent also reported on this matter. It was resolved to approve the reports, and it was further decided that a copy be forwarded to the Borough Council before any public hall licenses were issued. A lengthy discussion took placa as to whether the fire station doors should bo kept locked or open. The delay in giving the alarm at a recent firo was quoted as an argument in favour of tho doors boing left open. Subsequently it was decided that the station doors should be left open in future. ■An agreement was drawn up, approved, and signed, between the board and Mr. J. Gaynor, for the hire of a horse, hose, and ladder rool. HOCKEY MATCH. A hockey match was played between tho Petone Wednesday and Saturday representatives on the Hutt Park yesterday, and resulted in a draw, there being one goal each. Beswick scored for tho Wednesday team, and Lowry for the Saturday team. The game was keenly contested from start to finish, audj considering the carlincss of the season, very good form was shown.

COURT EPUNI, A.O.F. . Tho quarterly meeting of the Court Epuui A.O.F. was held in the Central Hair last evening, there being a large attendance of" members. Six brothers were reported as being' upon the sick fund, and four recovered. One new member was initiated into the order by tho P.R., Bro." W. S. Smith, tho Grand Charge being given by Bro. Nci)!, P.C.R.. Four candidates for membership wore nominated. Treasurer Bro. C. Lusty was appointed to take chargo of tho next juvenilo meeting. The C.R. announced that on next court night tho first "ladies' evening" of tho season will tako place. Primrose wore also invited to bo present, and an enjoyable evening is anticipated. The court will open at 7."30 on that evening. The delegate to tho Friendly Societies' concert reported that arrangements in connection with tho suggested combined friendly societies' demonstration, to be held on Sunday, April 10, to raise funds for the Jubileo Orphanage, were well in hand, and ho specially solicited the hearty co-operation of members of all societies in tho Hutt Valley in order to mako the function a success.
