COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.

MR. G. POWELL HONOURED. A pleasant function • was ■'• held on Thursday evening in Mr. Scott's supper rooms. Manners Street,, when Mr. 6. Powell, of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners,,' was ' entertained at a farewell smoke' concert by his fellow members •of the central branch, previous to his leaving for England as Australasian delegate to the General Council of the society. Mr. Harry Warner presided, and Mr. Wagstaff wis in the chair. In' proposing Mr. Powell's health, the chairman stated that the occasion was a unique one, as it was the first time the Dominion had sent a member Home to the council. Mr; Powell suitably replied. ' - A lengthy toast list was then gone through, the toasts of the' A.S.C. J. Management and District Committees being proposed by Messrs. Wagstaff, Smith, and Davidson, and responded to by ,Messrs._ M'Gregor, Booth, and Blatherwich in the same order. The president and secretary of the Trades Council also spoke on Labour matters. The. following contributed'to, the success, of , the evening:—Messrs.- Foote, Robin,. Kilner, • Warr, - Christensen, Chapman, Shannon, and Williams. Messrs.
