ETNA IN ERUPTION. A GREAT STREAM OF LAVA. TWO VILLAGES DESTROYED. By Talegraph-Presß Association— Oopyrleht Roma, March 23. Etna is throwing out lava and stones. Frequent shocks are being felt at Catania and Messina. (Rec. March 26, 0.55 a.m.) Rome,. March 25. The lava from four craters joined and made a stream 1500 feet wide ancl twelve feet deep. It is descending at the rate of half a mile hourly. It has destroyed the villages of Capriolo and Barello, and is threatening Bclpasso. The inhabitants aro placing sacred relics in front of their houses. Twenty-three shocks wefo registered at Etna Observatory in eight hours. . [Catania is on the east coast of Sicily, near the.foot of Etna. It.has often been ruined by earthquakes and eruptions of Etna, but always rebuilt in a superior style. Its streets are paved with lava, of which material tho public 'buildings aro _ constructed, being faced with magnesian limestone and enriched with marble. In December, 1908, Messina was overwhelmed by earthquakes, and thousands of lives lost.] ' ■ ■ . .
