Maughan Barnett'? organ recital : in the .Town Hall last evening. / The sombre .. note that must;be.for ever associated . .with ,the. soleim .--anniversary. of. Good Friday, was reflected in the programme, , ... which was- dignified r and \ reverent. in Chopin's "Funeral March" ; - was;-a fitting introductory number, and though written for the piano, and is .• '■ - perhaps heard at its' best on that in..strument, the march loses kittle'of its ./poignancy in transcription as played by '■'•; Mr.,Barnett. The Good Friday music from- "Parsifal" (Wagner) was also played with admirablo expression and ;;-, freedom. Other pieces included in the .programme were the BacbyGounod "Ave ...:-, Maria,",a "Meditation on Two Passion- •.-: tide; Hymn Tunes," the . uplifting ■ "Funeral; March and Hymn of Seraphs" : of Guilmant, and, a fantasia on. the "Sicilian Marine's Hymn" (F. Lux).
