DISCONTINUANCE OF THE SPECIAL : CAPITATION GRANT. / (Bj Telceraph.—Press Association. , : Auckland, March 23. - The decision , of the Minister for Education,, recently announced, to discontinue pajTnent of the special capitation grant of 9d. per head to school committees, was touched upon at the Auckland Education Board to-day. The chairman (Mr. C. J. Parr) said the grant to tho school committees in this province last year totalled £1138 ,10s'., and largely helped the committees in'.carrying--but.':."their : work. Now, without any warning, the Minister had' withdrawn the grant, "and.his, decision had Aroused a' storm of protest..'; It. < would thus be incumbent on school committees to make their" financial arrangejiients in accordance'with the reduced revenue.'> v They, all . deplored v the ] Minister's action" in' cutting; off : the | grant.
