(From Our Special Correspondent.) ■ ! —~» — ''■ ■ ■ . DRAMATIC CLUB. :""".-,.■'. The Lower Hutt Dramatic Club made a very successful appearance last night in the Town Hall which was packed. "It is a pity that we: do not see this bright little company oftener,"> was the .remark heard on all sides, and the hearty in .which the audience received their efforts, showed . plainly that this was the opinion of the majority. In the comedietta "Cinders," Mr. J. E. Bell and Miss V. Jensen were at their best, and received quite an ovation. And later, in the "Hook and Eye," Mr. Bell excelled himself. The latter portion of the entertainment took the form of a.grand concert in which Messrs. Chas. Gray, F. Mason, W. Cooper, Mrs. Lowe, and Miss Harloy performed very creditably. Miss E. Truebridge was accompanist. During the interval Mr. Bunny (who was' received with cheers) in a short speech referred to the object of the performance which was in aid of the funds of the Hutt Recreation Clubhand thanked those present for helping the cause. V ANNIVERSARY "SOCIAL:" The anniversary "social" of. the Wesley Church Sunday School was held last evening and ; was- a most success/ ful event from every standpoint.. Th<i Rev. A. J. Seamer occupied the chair and an excellent programme of instruimental and vocal-.music and recitations and speeches went:o(f very.well. -During the evening a silver-mounted baton was presented by Mr. Melhuish on be.half of the■teachers to Mr. : Ackroyd who, for many .years has trained the children in singing. The chairman also, on .behalf of the junior Y.P.S.C.E., presented "Mr. J. late superintendent, • with a' handsome traveller's companion. The secretary's ■ report showed that splendid work had been done, during the year, and the treasurer's report showed a, balance •in hand. The chairman, in the course.of his remarks, congratulated the Sunday School staff on the splendid state of the school. The prizes were presented by. Mr. W. J. Kirk, an old superintendent, and.a very pleasing and- successful'function was brought to a close about 9.30 p.m. ~ ; OPEN-AIR CONCERT. An open-air concert was given at the residence of Mr. J. W. Reade, the novel part of it being the number .of;, items given, by the gramophone. A fair crowd of people listened attentively and frequently applauded, and at intervals joined in choruses fihat were familiar to them. ■ - - - !>• ••.. ; HUTT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Before Messrs. Chapman, Peterkin, and Elliot, J.P.'s, at'the Hutt-Police .Court yesterday, judgment by default was given'in the following civil cases: Hutt Valley Hardware Co. v. Wm. Rolfe, for £14 14s! lOd., with 15s. costs; Hutt Borough Council v. Abraham White,,£7 16s. 9d;_, and Bs. costs. For plying for Irire without a license Geo. Fernandos- was ordered to pay costs, 17s. James Read for being the owner of an unlicensed pdhiele was orderett to pay costs 75., and legal expenses £1 Is. Albert Peck for a similar offence was dealt with in lihe same manner. James R. Mabey, for driving ani unlicensed vehicle belonging to L. Peck, was ordered to pay costs 7s. Patrick O'Shea, for a similar offence, had his case dismissed, and a charge against John Lanes for the same offence was dismissed through the summons having been served on another man of that name. Thomas Harley, for allowing cattle to wander (two oharges) was fined 10s. and 7s. costs on, each charge. Frank Meyrick, for the same offence, was fined os. ■ and ,7s. costs. Bernard Deiderick, for a similar offence, was fined ss. and 7s. costs, as were also W. A. Sammons, Herbert Ell, Richard. Dndding, Peter, Bowker, and Thomas Gunter.LODGE MEETING. The Hope of Petone Lodge of the 1.0.G.T.'5, held their weekly session in the Ranfurly Hall, Petone, last evening, Bro. W. Denby, C.T., presiding. A strong committee was set up to make arrangements foi , lie anniversary "social" to be held in May. After business the lodge went into recess. The programme was as follows:—Song, Bro. Heron, Bro. Kyle, Sis. Whiting, Bro. Robertson, and ci&ers.
