Shortly after one o'olock yesterday afternoon the'Petone Fire Brigade received a call to suppress a slight outbreak of fire in. a six-roomed house- in Gear Street, owned and occupied by Mr. Robert Colqiiitt. The fire was confined to the kitchen, where it- was discovered that some, kindling-wood left on the stove had ignited. Messrs. List, Blanford, and Shardlow, who were close at hand, succeeded in mastering the fire before the brigade arrived. Very little damage was done. : The building was insured in the Atlas Office for £300, and the furniture for £75 in the New Zealand: Office.
