A Dunedln, March 21. ■', John Horan, a middle-aged married man, living .with his family at Caver-, sham, and employed as ganger on the ■. Mosgiel duplication railway works, was. knocked down by the engine of the ,1.2 p.m. train Dunedin to-day. It appears that he was talking to another ganger (John Elliott) .close to' the Kensington passenger siding, and at the time ; they were ..standing behind some tracks. Elliott said: "Look, out, Jack, she's coming," and Horan, thinking that a. shunting . engine waa . approaching the trucks, stepped on to the main, line, and was cut down by the engine. He was carried some ■>thirty feet,-and pickedi up .unconscious. Hβ died at 4'p.m. without regaining con* sciousness. . .

Assistance was promptly rendered, but the man was found to bo dead when it ar- . ' rived. Miller, a well-known farmer, in the Mossburn district, was thrown from, a horse on Thursday, and died in thai : Riverton • Hospital on Sunday.- . ■ PENSIONER'S DEATH, ' ' New Plymouth, March 2L ' An Imperial pensioner, named Francis ' Eastfield Bilton, aged 79, committed '' suicide by cutting his throat this mom-' ' ing.
