FLANNELETTE NIGHT CLOTHES.
THEIR DANGER. ray Telecraim.-Press Association.) '■ ' Carterton, March 21. An inquest was held this morning on the body of Edith Emma Macauley aged 4} years, daughter of W. J. Macauley, of Carrington 'settlement, who met her death through her clothes catching fire on March 18: The evidence showed that while the parents had left the house to do the milking the httle girl walked up to the fire, while wearing flannelette night clothes, to get warm. She caught fire and was burned from the knees all round the body. A verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to the parents. The jury added the following rider: "That the actingcoroner be asked to make strong representation to the Minister for Public Health condemnatory of the use of iannelette by people of the Dominion tor clothing and other purposes. The jury is of opinion that many lives are sacrificed through the nse of this material, and _ that a prohibitive duty should be imposed thereon. The 'jury ask that this be done in the cause of humanity. They are- aware that the material is dangerous to life and inimical to health, and consider it should banished from use in every house-: hold. . .
