MAGISTRATE''S COURT
At the Petone Magistrate's Court yesterday/before Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M.: Wm.. M'Kinstry and John Nah--kivillo were each fined 20s. and costs 7s. for breaches of prohibition orders Wm. Mulhs, for the" same offence, was fined 405., .with costs 7s. Accused did not appear. ' Ah Lum, a Ciinese fruiterer,, was charged with two breaches of the by-laws regarding the keeping of poultry.. His Worship considered the charge proven, and ordered accused to pay costs, 14s. On the information-of tlio borough inspector (Mr. W B Gough), John Neagle, for hawkin" without a license, was fined 20s anS costs 7s. .... '.. In the civil action, James Bonner versus John Nankiville, ■ a claim for damages, plaintiff stated that on a certain evening he had, while cycling, ■ collided with a cart owned by defendant and left without a light. The result was that he had sustained severe injuries, and his' bicycle had been damagedjo such an extent that be claimed £10,. alleging negligence on defendant s part. Defendant denied the charge of negligence, but his Worship gave judgment for plaintiff f or . £6 10s and costs. .. • ... . ,
FOOTBALL MEETING. n 10 me< ?ting of the Petone i'ootball Club Association was held in the Chronicle" rooms last night. A feature of the meeting was the large number of youths present, this evidently being indicative of the increasing popularity of the club. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron ■Mr- J -W- M'Ewan; president, Mr. a. J. Palmer; vice-presidents, Rev. Mr. Russell, Messrs. Keir," Warnes Coles, Renai, and London: secretary' Mr. J. Mitchell; treasurer, Mr J M'Kinnon; Management Committee! Messrs. Hartley, Curtis, Gadney, Shaw ; and Jowett; captain,.Mr. J. M'Kinnonauditors, Messrs. Jowett and Griffiths' Selection Committee, Messrs M'Kin' non, Mitchell, and Hartley. The balance-sheet as published was adopted and the fixing of the' date of the first practice match was held over, pending the council's decision re allotment of grounds. After, the correspondence relative to urifinancial members had been dealt with, a vote of thanks te Mr. A. Cates for'acting as chairman concluded the meeting.. :
; AMBTJLANCE GALA DAY. Arrangements are well in hand for the forthcoming gala day, to be held on the first Saturday in April, in aid of the Ambulance Wagon Fund. Amongst other novelties there will be a ladies' fancy dress hockey match, and no small siudy is /being given by players' who havo an eye to securing the prize for tho most original fancy dress.
