The meetings were held first at Midnapore, and afterwards in.Calcutta. Colonel Cowans, brigade commander at Fort, William, Calcutta, is • investigating the matter. The loyalty of the rest of the regiment/is not suspected, and no order for its transfer ' has yet been made. ■". \ Tho 10th Jats'were lately known as i-tho 10th Bengal Infantry, and have, .their headquarters at Alipore, under it-he command of Major-General Firth. : iTho Jats, who are mainly agriculturists Wl cattle-breeders, are scattered over tho Punjab and the Rajput States, as well as through Sind and the North-' Vest Provinces.'
