During his brief, sojourn, Mr.': Matthews purchased some very fine-lines of beef, about, 434000 worth of ;,\)-hieh'are,,tb bo";shipped; from Dargaville .- at ail early'■' date.' .'■' The greater, portion, of .tho "cattle .were.purchased on an estate .which the.western route of the Main Trunk line will rrav«re3,"2oo head being bought on Mr. Keddcll's'fine property. at~ Omana, whilst a splendid .draft was also purchased from Messrs. Dreaddn Bros. and', others.- ' Mr. Matthews was delighted with the Wairoa. cattle, .and'h« states that, it is now his intention, to make periodical. visits here for the purpose of securing fat stock.. .', Just' recently the" Norwegian barque Njord left Kaipara with a big ishipmsrit of kauri for Liverpool. That vessel has now; been followed by. the barque Aquilla .with', a large .conrignmeut of,, kauri for Ifludon: These shipments' are exceedingly satisfactory/.and demonstrate . to , the .outer-world-what a rich place - Kaipara is,'".when-..the.exports of.' timber, gum, flax, wool,' fish; and fat stock'are considered.; In .addition , 'to -Home markets being catered for, New. Hickmaii, Government veterinary furgcon, is paying Northern Wairoa a visit.. -Yesterday Mr.. Hickman proceeded, to.. Kehia, where,',a. largo number 'of theep. and , lambs,.are 'affected, and in order to thoroughly investigate tie cause of so many deaths two lambs of one flock were killed and an autopsy made.. The ■result proved to bo as suspected by Mr. Hickman and-'others—that the seat'of the whole trouble was stomach worms, .w.hich were'..pr,esent..in! .myriads.' .There was "an. affecfiori.'of-the/lungs.
