(From Our Special- Correspondents.l 5 4_ .. FEILDING. The eighteenth annual sports meeting of tho Eaugiwahia Sports Club was held in beautiful weather yesterday. There was a good attendance of the public, the visitors present including Mr. D. H. Guthrie, M.P.' Good entries.had been received, and an excellent meeting resulted.

The Rangiwahia annual flower show lias just been held, and proved a success, the school gardens exhibits being particularly good.

Oil the Kimbolton courts this week a tenuis match was played between junior teams representing Apiti and Kimbolton. The weather was ideal for tennis, and a good afternoon's enjoyment resulted. Afternoon tea was provided by. the Kimbolton ladies in their usual good style. A meeting of the leilding Fire Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. ]•). Goodbehere (chairman), W. J. B. Trewip, A. Williamson, C. A. Ewen (Wellington),, and J. J. Mallard (Wellington). The tender of Mr: T. Collins (.£1.281 125.) for the new fire station was accepted.

GREYTOWN. Notwithstanding the heavy Sownpour of rain this week, the damage reported is but slight. Fences were laid fiat iii some places, but no stock is reported as missing. The silt will do good, although in some places it has covered the grass. That, however, can soon be remedied.. Of course, the coming of the rain means that dairy farmers will have good.,feed for their stock for some time yet. In fact, this has oeeu an exceptionally good season, the grass never at any time having been eaten down or dried up, as has been the case in other seasons. Recently a young nian named Nicholls; a resident of this district, bad a narrow escape from serious , accident through striking a light near an acetylene gasholder. LEVIN. The picnic, organised -by the Levin School Committee for the children attending Levin District' High School took place yesterday at Horowheivua Lake: The children were conveyed to tho rendezvous by coach, and along. w.ith their parents and friends made up a company numbering some 500. Unfortunately . a strong wind was blowing, and rain threatened during the day, but that did not damp the spirits of the. youngsters, who enjoyed themselves .to the utmost. The tradespeople provided a largo number of gifts for races, etc., and the various eveuts were contested with the greatest, keenness.- A race for members of the school committee was won by Mr. Shaw. The married ladies'• race, was won by Mrs. Fry;.and the teachers' race by Miss Tavendalc. During the day Jliss.Stansell, one of the teachers; sustained an injury to her knee, and had to. be . conveyed home. ..'•"-.--.

On''Wednesday, afternoon' a number of bowlers from Shannon visited Levin, and one rink engaged in a match for possession of the Kinniburgh Feathers. . The. game at one time, looked like proving a runaway victory for the holders (Levin), but the visitors, who ,at the sixteenth head had only scored 7 to their . opponents' 29, camo away with a rush, and at fho remaining 'five heads they scored 13 to Levin's 1.
