HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

The Petone Oddfellows'. Hall was crowded last night, .when the Petone Junior • Club held tlieir annual concert. In.the first part of the programme items were given by Miss D. MUwen, Miss V. ,Walsh, Miss Kibblewhite, ...Miss Landgridge, Mrs. Ridge, Messrs. Chamber lain, "tile Archers/' lfcodgers, Cole, and Gray, Miss B'atteTsby was the accompanist. The second part of the pro gramme consisted of selections from "Maritana," produced by the Petone Entertainment Society, tho principals being' Miss M. -Pounceby, Miss W. Holden, Messrs. N. Evan, F. Dolling, and C. Burridge, ! assisted by a strong chorus. Miss V.' Davis played the accompaniments, and Mr. Cronin conducted. A very successful garden 1 ipaitywoa held yesterday aiternobii' at- Mr. Stannard iuiiglit's grounds, Lower Hutt. Between CO and 70 people were present, and some interesting games of croquet were indulged in, afternoon tea being dispensedon 1 the lawn. The proceeds are to go to the Methodist Church organ fund. Mrl.' J'. W. Eeade's open-air concert at Lower Hutt last evening was well attended. During the evening the Eev. Mr. Braddock gave-.a'.short-address to the children. ~, . : .m ~,' Mrj'W.-H. Eussell, a candidate for the. Lower Hutt Mayoralty,..Kas.'Been identified with the development of, Hutt Valley for the past eleven years, more particularly with the Borough Council, hasirig been senior councillor in the; previous council to the present one... Mr. fiussell contested 'the Mayoralty, last year, and. up till the present is the.only candidate announced. Bro. W. Denby, C.T., of .the Hope of Petone Lodge of Good Templars, presided over a good attendance of members at their weekly session held in, the Eanfurly' Hall,-Petone, last evening. ~Bro. D. Mat,tin was reoommended a£ electoral deputy., The item for the evening was "Sisters' Surprise," and fruit in plenty was served, after which Sis. ISiller took the chair and conducted the harmony, the programme including songs by Sis. Denby, Withing, and others. '
Mr. W. H. . Kussell announces his candidature for the Hutt Mayoralty. Mr. Russell has already served the Hutt Borough as a member of the Borough Council.
