. ... ...... ...... ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Wellington Harriers, states that the membership was. ecpial to that of the previous year, viz., sixty members, .but many of these, did not take an active part in the club's-doings. In all, twenty-three weekly runs were hold, the average muster being twentythree runners. The following , secured attendance badges, having attended each run:—W. Press, P. Wilton, P. A. Wilton, W. White, L. Salek, C.. Rowborry, and •H.'A. Lamb. Six races were decided during the season, the 1 results being:— Novice Handicap, 2J miles, on Hutt Park Racecourse, P. 1 Hodson 1, . S. M'Dowall 2. Palmer Cup Race, 3' miles, at Miramar, H. A. lamb 1, P. Hodson 2. Steeplechase, 21 miles, at Trentham, P. Hodson I,' P.Wilton 2. Test Race',' -4 miles, at Jliramar, P. Wilton 1, P. Hodson 2. Ten Mile Handicap, at Lower Hutt,. A. P. White 1, C, Lamberg. 2. Club Championship and Sealed Handicap, 5 miles, at -Miramar, W. Bennett 1, W. Press 2nd. in championship, W. Press 1 and A. P. White 2nd in Sealed Handicap. The trophy for highest aggregate in the weekly runs-in was won by.H. J. Pollock, with R. E. Bust runner-up. For- the first time in the club's ■ history members' were given the opportunity of competing against clubs outside of Wellington. This was due to the action of the N.Z.A.AIA. in resuscitating the cross-country ohampionship, the conduct : of which was allotted to the South Canterbury Harriers at Timaru. As a result of a test race, Mr. W. H. Pollock selected teams from club members as follow:—For the centre's championship, P. Wilton,, F. Hodson, W. Bennett, W. Press, and C. Rowborry; for tho club' 6 ohampionship, . tho, same five men and H. A. Lamb, B. W. Curry, and R. E. Bust. These. teams gained • second place in each case, being beaten by Otago Centre in the'' big' event, and by CaverSham Club in the minor, one.. After competing at Timaru, six of the team proceeded to Dunedin, and took part in a ten-mile handicap race held by the Civil Service Harriers of that city. W. B. Bennett made second fastest time in the race, but none of the others were conspicuous at the finish. The team was .capably managed by the club president, Mr. W. H. Bennett, while' away from Wellington: Tho annual road raco for tho Whyte and Mackay shield was held over the usual course, and wou by tho Port Nicholson A.A»C. team. On November 9 last the Wellington Centre conducted a Marathon race over . the full. distanco of 26 miles 385 yards. In this race, which was contested by runners from Auckland, Canterbury, and Wellington,, tho ■ cluli was represented by W• Bennett, W. Press, and C. Lamberg,' who finished third, fourth, and fifth respectively. At the Wellington provincial ' championship sports, tho following members competed:—J. P. Wilson, first in the 880 yds. and second in 4ioyds.; P. Wilton, second in ono and three mile runs; H. J. Pollock, third in one mile; and I'. Hodson, in one and three miles. J. F. Wilson also ran into second place in the 830 yds. New Zealand championship held at Auckland. Three invitation runs were . held during the season from the residences of Messrs. W. H. Bennett, A.'Marryatt, and H, A. Lamb respectively. Each of these runs was thoroughly enjoyed by members, who were entertained at their conclusion by the hosts and hostesses. In accordance with a resolution passed ,at tho last annual meeting, life members hedges wore presented .to Messrs.- W. A. Low, W. H. Pollock, and S. Robinson. . The balance-sheet shows a: cash balance of £1 17s. 0d„ and the value of assets over liabilities is set down as .£ls 13s. 9d.
