The Spiral Pipe, Company were the successful'bidders. • One of the conditions of lease was that:the lessee should put up buildings worth ,£3OOO within two years, but the buildings which the company contemplate erecting will: probably exceed that amount considerably. ;.7,; The Rev. U. '..Drake' arid Mrs. Drake, on' the eve of their departure -for .':Duriedin;' were presented by the Primitive Methodist congregation yesterday with several valuable and useful parting gifts. General regret was expressed 'at tneir departure, and best wishes were declared for their future prosperity. ". • - The Waitotara .Road Board declines to' expend the Government grant on the, Ahuahu Road on the ground that .only, one of its ratepayers is resident in that district, and the Government is to be asked to undertake this 1 badly-needed work at once. The council, however, has agreed to call for tenders for the installation of a ferry where the road comes out on the Wanganui River. Considerable satisfaction is felt here at tho promise of the Minister for Railways to revise the time-table' in tho direction of enabling mail trains to arrive enrlior, and giving better connections at Marton with tho Main Trunk expresses.
