The Broken Hill Combined Unions' Committee support a proposal to organise a general strike for one week throughout Australia, as a protest against the Government's treatment of the Newcastle strike leaders, NOT TO BE SACRIFICED. At the conclusion of a meeting of the Newcastle : colliery owners to-day, the following . communication was, made to. the press: ■ /'The proprietors have. been - asked by the Employees' Federation to state. how many men are at present- employed in the mines, and whether they are Union-" ists. What the Federation really wants is that we should dismiss these meh.i"That is precisely what we refuse to do:. Those men came' to our assistance in the time of trouble, and'our . meeting has unanimously-decided not to 'sacrifice' them. ' "We do not intend to budge an inch. 1 '
