TRADE IN ALLEN STREET. Bananas—By the Hauroto. which arrived from the Islands, yesterday, 1450 caEes of bananas came to hand, which is the smallest shipment received since the service was inaugurated. The s.s. Navua from Fiji is due on Friday, and her shipment is a light one. , As retailers' stocks aro very low; the demand should bo good at higher prices. Passion Fruit.—Heavy supplies are now coming forward from the Auckland dis-' trict; and prices are etsy. Peaches.—The glut appears to have been worked off, and higher rates aro now being obtained. Apples.—Dessert apples are in heavy supply, and only moderate prices are being realised. Cooking apples are not plentiful, and prices for these havo im'proved. . P,ears.—The market is slightly firmer for New- Zealand-grown fruit. Tomatoes.—Supplies have fallen oil considerably, and values have advanced about 2o per cent, in conseouenoe. Vegetables.-The recent rains havo had a beneficial effect, and heavier supplies are now reaching tho market. Green ocas aro in short 3upply, and consignments aro recommenced., - Bulk pastry butter is in exceedingly .short supply, and: the market is very firm.Fresh eggs display a weaker tone, as supplies are. fully equal to the .present demand. Hams and Bacon.—There is still a very good: demand, but prices remain unchanged. , Poultry-Turkeys aro in short supply, but. all other- sorts aro ample to meet current;' requirements.-Flour.-There ha 3 been quite a heavy weV the " A " as " brand durins tho past demand shows signs of expanding, and this should become pronounced as tho winter approaches. . Oats.-j-Southern merchants are now offering oats, for April, May, and June shipment at, very tempting prices. Bran- and pollard are meeting with fair ■ sales at last week's'quotations. Sound fair average quality wheat only is in demand, however, and anything that shows signs of weather is neglected, and can only be sold for fowl feed. Among the sales during the last few days were 500 sacks of tuscan at 3s. 8d„ 600 at 3s. 7d., 900 at 3s. 6d., 515 of hunters at 3s. 7d., 590 of pearl at 3s. 7d., and 300 of weathered at 3s. 3d. At country stations there is rather more business doing in oats, and prices generally range from is. 6d. to Is. 9d. at country stations. Sales reported include 2000 bushels of storm kings at Is. aid., 1200 bushels of duns at Is. 6d 1300 bushels of b-grade gartons at Is. BJd. At country stations ryegrass is inquired for, and perennial is reported to bo scarce. Tho offers of supplies from Southland tend, however, to keep prices steady. Farmer's undressed parcels of perennial are worth 2b. 3d. to 2s. 6d., and Italian 2s. and 2a. 3d. at country stations. The cocksfoot market has weakened during the last few days, and some buyers are not offering more than 4d. ,- There is no change to report in potatoes, but onions aro easier. HIDE-AND SKIN SALE. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their, skin and hide sales, held yesterday, as- follows:—We offered a large catalogue to a full attendance of buyers, who competed keenly, for • everything offered, hides being in very good uomand at increased prices. Mnrray, P.oborts and Co. report: ; —The fortnightly safes were resumed yesterday,, when a very largo offering faced the .buyers, who attended in large numbers. Bidding from the outset was animated, and prices for all the offerings, wool, skins, and hides, were very firm, and in sellers' favour. Our catalogue comprised some 7CCO : sheepskins, 400 hides, and 100 fadges and bags of wool, all of which wero sold at auction at prices whirii should prove very satisfactory to tho owners. As might be expected, there were large accumulations of bag wool, sheepskins, hides, and tallow. Buyers turned up in usual numbers, and bidding was brisk for all. produce offered. Prices for wool and skins were on a .par .with last snle, hides were higher, as also was tallow.
