OBITUARY.
—— ,:. MR. A. PERCYBTILLER, News was received. by cable yesterday of the death at Meritone at 5 a.m. on Monday of Mr. A. Percy Buller, second son of the late Sir Walter Buller, and a inomber of the legal firm- of Bulleiy Anderson, and Buddie of this city. The (deceased gentleman had not enjoyed good health for many years, haying suffered from an affected heart and Bright's disease. For that reason he relinquished his law work in i Wellington about twa years ago, and took, up his residence in Southsea, England, hoping that the change would be of benefit to his health. He was intermittently ill at Home, but never allowed, bis con&ition to intevier* with his captivating geniality and volatile spirits, which endeared iim to many in ~New Zealand. He was always glad to meet New Zealanders-at Home and liked to keep himself posted in Dominion affairs. A lew weeks ago his medical ab tendant advised him to seek a waxmei climate during the English winter, and warned bim that, the cold was too. much for his weakened heart. As the resull he was wintering at Men tone wben overtaken ,by death. . Mr. Buller, who waj it years of age, .was born'in. Auckland, and was educated in England. He was a graduate of Jesus College,, Cambridge,' and was subsequently called to the English Bar at the Inner Temple in ISBO. A little later he came to New Zealaiid and was admitted a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1891. The deceased, who was unmarried, had only I one brother, Mr. W. Leo. Buller, who resides\at Hall Court, Susses, and one. sister, "who married Major : Maddock, V.C. Major Mair, of Kotorua, and Captain Mair, of Taradale, Napier, were uncles of the deceased. Mr. Percy Buller was a skilled entomologist, and his collection, now lying in the Dominion Aruseum, is considered one of the best ir New- Zealand. DEATH OF MB." A. REESE. Our Pahiatua correspondent telegraphs! Mr. Alexander Eeese, a member of t\\tt Laud Board, died at the Pahiatua Hospital at six o'clock last evening, after a long and painful illness. Deceased' was b'G years of age. ' ■■ . Mr. Reese was born at Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1843, and came to New Zealand in the ship Himalaya in 1867. For some years he resided at Christchurcli, but came to Wellington in 1878, where he entered into building and contracting. He carried ont a number of large contracts of various kinds. Afterwards be went fanning in the Pahiatua district. He always took a keen interest in publio affairs, and has held various public positions, his services on the Land Board extending over a considerabl< period. Again a serious shortage of railwa] trucks was experienced in Wellingtai yesterday, and several the shipping companies aro complaining of the inconvenience caused thereby; At a time when, coal is in such great demand it is very necessary that quick dispatch should be given the colliers at this end, but for several days now the steamers have been able to discharge at a snail's pace only on account of the shortage. Loading operations of some of tho big liners are also affected. A man named Janies Cartin, alias Carson, on remand from Auckland, will be charged at \the'Magistrate's Court to-day with the theft at Wellington on or about January 5, r 190S, of ,£45, belonging to Donald Mlvenzie. The money is alleged to have been obtained by means of a con, fidenco trick. '
