The girl, who is, 18, years' of age, was'attacked'-by a man of .strong build, aid: cried so'.loudly that a young .mai named Oakes who, was some considerable distance off heard her and went to her/assistance.' : .The" man jis. said to j hate 'confronted Oakes with a, knife,' and to have threatened to use' if if he. interfered, but Oakes; advanced boldly, "whereupon the man'made a dash for it and..-escaped; The; matter was reported to: Constable Johnston who arrested a man named Wm. J. P., Moore. The accused was .brought before a local justice and remanded.
