On the' same evening the- Boys' Insti-tute-decided two eventi, a 100 yds. handicap ■ and a 25yds. handicap. ' Tho first event went to A. M'Carlio scr. Notwithstanding the fact that he conceded as much as lOsec. etart, he won very easily. M'Carlie.has a pleasing stroke, is a good stayer, and gives every promise o£ developing into a first-class swimmer. The time was 85sec; ! : ''■::'■
. On Wednesday evening , the Wellington Club held a "B"' class handicap over 50 yards. .A "field" of M faced the starter. T. Hall, who showed much improvement since his last, effort easily: accounted for the first heat. There was a. good struggle for second place 'between J. Barnard and G. Hamill. The next heat provided a good finish. • W. J. .O'Meara looked a likely winner 15 yds..from the finish, bnt S.' Styles, S. Beaumont, and J. Ford put in a good sprint, and touched ahead of him in . that, order.. J. A. MTOean accounted: for the next heat, with D. Martin and W.;Baumgart in the/places. W. H. Pollock had a very bad passage in this heat. The judges -were unable to separate F. Delaney and W. Sullivan' in the fourth heat. ".T.: Hall -was successful in the final with .a promising young: swimmer, .S. Styles,. second. S. Beaumont added another third to his record.
