'So far ; as can' be is the-safest way to preface an .announcement concerning Lord Kitchener's movements—the ' I'ield-Marshal's programme for to-day may be set but as follows:- — At an early hour.in the morning—between : 8- and 9 o'olock—Lord 'Kitchener, with his personal;staff,■ anu the-members of,-, the Defence Council, will embark, on ■the Janie Beddon,■'.and :proceed upon a tour, of the . harbour , defences... Subsequently, the party will lind f at.' Mahanga Hay,'.when Lord Kitchener will make an inspection.. -of . the fortifications. Fort Kelburne, at Ngahauranga,: will also be inspected. Whether; his Lordship will revisit the forts at night.is problematical. .Some ! say; he 'will. .If he' does'not,' then the muster of 'gunners for the;mornirig inspection will not'be.very large, as most of. the men have .not been able L to .obtain the necessary leave of absence to permit of their presence at the forts during the daytime. Yesterday forenoon there were 3400 odd cadets !at the Hutt Park, aiiil by the time the. grand review: takes, place ■ this afternoon, at 3.30 p.m., it is certain that there will be a. total muster ipf nearly 4000. The threes Wellington cadet battalions have, mustered over 1200' strong, the battalion details being as follow':— No. 1. The Wairarapa cadets, under Major Haslam, muster '359; while No. 2 Battalion, from Hawke's Bay, under Lieu- . tenant-Colonel Stevenson; musters ■ 293. A ;big detachment of over 1400 of all ranks have come down' from Taraiiaki and Wanganui. A detachment of 100 Senior Cadets from the Nelson district was expected in camp last. evening.:. There were four small detachments of Senior Cadets at the park ■yesterday ' morning—Wanganui, 36; Napier, 23; Dannevirke, 30r falmerston North, 65. Added to these are 200 Boy Scouts, under Lieutenant-Commander H. N. jVl'ljedd. Among the cadets : are: also a number of "scout-cadets."
