The match of ten games for the ohess championship of the world between Dr. Lasker (holder) and Herr Schlechter (the Austrian champion and challenger) .has concluded. ■ ; The ninth game was drawn, and at that stage only one game had been won,' the fifth, which was secured by Schlechter. The lattor would thus have.won-in the event of a draw iii the last game. : ' Lasker, however, was equal to the occasion, winning the game, -and drawing the match.' He thus-retains the world's championship. .; [With'only:one game to go, and possessing the only win, Sohlechter's chance looked good, especially as, in the words of a contemporary, "Schlechter is a chess artist who is regarded as ' the drawing masThis capacity for playing for the draw has militated against his success in tournaments."
