' STATEMENT BY THE OWNER. Mr. Andrew, Gray, of Wellington, the owner.of White Island, telegraphs: -"I have had no direct communication witli, the Cavendish Laboratory, but ' have a' letter from -Mr.. Galbraith, late of Auckland, stating that a 'samplfe of White Island Lake water, obtained by the courtesy of ,Mr. Alexander, 1 solicitor, of Auckland, While' yachting, was' examined at Cambridge by the' Hon. Mr. Strutt, to whom Mr. Galbraith was introduced by' Sir William Ramsay, and that it showed a slight trace in solids of:radium. Mr. Galbraith suggested evaporating' a ton, but this -was impracticable. This was in 1907,' when radium was less valuable.'
