Entry-forms for the Wellington Associations .eleventh' annual ; championship: tournament are being sent out to all the leading players.and to allthe clubs. The programme provides for ten events—five provincial championships; and five junior, championships: All.the provincial championship events, and the men's singles and doubles in the junior events will be played the best of three sets, and thefadies' singles and doubles, and the combined doubles in the junior events will be played the best out of seventeen games, advantage. •, The value of the ;trophies for allsingies'events has been increased to £2 25., and there will be no second prizes. The tournament will be held in town—the provincial ohampionsbips on grass and thev junior events on the asphalt courts. ..There are now 47 clubs affiliated to the Wellington Association, .there being a total membership of 2394. Since the opening of this season, seven now clubs have affiliated, while one has resigned. I - A quarterly general meeting of the New Zealand Association will be held on' Tuesday,' February 8. The chief business will be the consideration of the Otago Association's request that- the South Island championship singles be held ' in Otago every year.- Mr. Harrawa]', last year's president of the Otago Association, has presented a cup -for, the South Island singles championship, on condition' that the event is played m Otago. Hence the ,Otago Association's application: The Management Committee of the New Zealand body recommends that the request bo granted, but would it be in tho best interests of New Zealand'tennis to grant such a request? All associations should be treated in the same manner. The game in part, or as a whole, should not be fostered in one province at the expense of the others. H there is to be a South Island championship singles event, then the Canterbury, Marlborough, Nel-son,-and West Coast Associations all have

1 csjval claims to hold that event. The v ,ct that tha Otago Association, applied TTrst does not justify that association's claims for the privilege of holding this event annually. This afternoon: the annnal match between Canterbury and Wellington will be played on the United Club's courts in Christchurch. Wellington is represented by Messrs. J. C. Peacock, F. M. B. Fisher, B. Salmond, C. F. Quinnell, E. St. J. Bcere, and F. P., Wilson., The singles and doubles will be played in the order named. Tho team is not as strong as it should bo, but, with the first four in good form, (hey should give a good account of themselves. Being a one-day match, it will be decided on nine rubbers —six singles and three doubles.^ The Canterbury Association is endeavouring to arrange for a ladies' team to ■ visit Wellington during • the present month. , ", I '■ Canterbury will be represented' by Messrs. OUivier, Pearce, Borrows, Quill, Harman, and Goss, to.be: played m the order named. Kiver and Bonnington are the emergencies. By the arrangement of the team there appears to have been some reversals of form amongst'the Canterbury players during the last season. Quill has. just returned from the tournaments' in England and should be a much-improved player by the experiences gained, yet he takes fourth place in the team. Harman is the veteran ;' of the team. ' He. first, represented, his ' province in'lßß6. : .'..'.'■
