OLD HAUJIAKI MINE. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland,'February'3. Considerable intorest continues to bo taken in the Old Hauraki • Mine, and. developments of an important nature are exjectedf' Mr.- 0. Hudson, chairman of the company, .who has just been on a.visit of inspection •to the mine, made an interesting statement on'hi? return. "There is a nice show, of gold in the top of the rise," Baid Mr; Hudson, "but thero is a great deal of:, development . work, .such, as -.the nccessary straightening up. and timberings, etc., to be done before the manager can .get at. the gold again. Consequently, there is not likely to'bo'another breaking down immediately. It is theymanager's intention to put in an intermediate level on. the new.reef-, at about- the ..point whero the bottom of the winze and the top of the rise junction, this being the only way in which the ground can be worked." Gon« cerning the crosscut at tho 3Goft. level, st'artec} last'week, on a clay seam, which was believed to bo-likely to open out into tho sa,no,ore body- as that yielding the specimens in the rise." Mr. Hudson said that this had been advanced about 6ft. "The seam," ho said, "has improved considerably, and has now widened out"to from Bin. to 10in.' in. widthr.and 1 the manager is convinced that it i.s'the . same reef as the. new ore specimen reef in the rise. It .is not showing. gold at present, but is mineralised exactly the saine as the reef •in the rise, and carries similar pugs." Mr. Hudson added that the extension of the- crosscut ,at. the 3Qoft.\ level a further •lOftC. or >. so-'should bring.'the ,face .-to'a* point just about above tho reef in the rise, and'this ought to prove whether or not the is goingup.

'THAMES DEEP LEVELS.-, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

Mining has started well in Bcefton district in 1910; ,Tho developments in tho mmes north and Bouth of. the" Big Uiver have opened a good prospect, and the St. George Syndicato in.thevsame locality is on good stone. It is currently stated that the new level of the Energetic is on one of the bestvreefs yet encountered, and the Progress iMin'es j has struck.- a-. remarkably goo'd-line' of reer. • The-,New-.Big River reports, that during .January;l9lo,' the. N0.,10 crosscut has been extended'' 40ft. J '.(in * a portion of which a double' line of tramway-.has .been ./laid); making 78ft.-from the'shaft. No. 9'.winze has .'been , sunk on additional 21ft„ making 91ft.'from tho floor of level. Sinking is being", continuedJn a. reef formation in'which gold'bearing boulders" of stone are intermixed. There is also a promising* looking reef coming. in from the. south end of the winze,- and. a little water is coming from the. stone. ' • New Eastern Block: A little stoping has" been done on the block : in blank ground, but it did not disclose anything of- any value. Old Eastern Block: Tho reef is 200 t .(-P.20) incheswide,, but there-is very, little,'.stone left to be taken out of the north side of the winze. Branch Block:. Tho reef in tho stopes is from Ift. to 4ft., wide. Owen' 6 Reef: -This, stone - has.been'driven on. for. 12ft., but the stone is of poor quality.
