'■ There were, also 1 present: :/Councillors ALynneberK, Kicrnan, Carver, Darvall, Banhis-. ter; 'Aplin, :Stafford, 'an'd.- Plimmer. '; The engineer's -report stated that 328 cubic yards :of..metal had been distribated throughout' ;the Khandallah' ward 'since the | last report. Referring '• to, the . light ing' of- Kaiwarra, /the, report stated.,that a .-tracing 'had- .been "'forwarded'to-;.'the Electric -Light -Department, showing; the positions !of the new-lights to • be erected,' twelve/in• all,'-and- ten.-of' which . would replace./ the existing : gas lamps. /The engineer.:.also stated that he had seen the secretary . of the. Gas Company,; who had stated that all the company required ■was a month's notice when the council desired to cancel the agreement.-- The Electric Lighting Department; could not 6tart :* the work un til next month, owing to the shortage: of poles. . ■' ■ iAttention - was. drawn to the alleged defective 'lighting of certain . parts- of the 1 borough; one councillor'pointing out that three (.'or four;, lamps /at Ngaio," for/..in--stance, had been.. out, forover a week. It was decided to writo to the Wellington . City Council in reference 'to /.the matter.-.,- . - A '..... A A ;. It was decided to again draw tho attention of certain ratepayers.tb/the.necessity for'preventing' their drainage going on Jo the roads. In: the event of default, it,is proposed to bring a test case in the -Court to; see if. the borough by-law is-sufficient, to empower the'council-to make ratepayers do what is necessart in this connection. •. .A~- . A;-The -Engineer was, instructed to furnish a report.on the question of fencing and replanting the water catchment area, i-" decided _ that an /applicntian from residents of Totara Terrace, Ngaio' for an electric light in : .the locality should, be given .consideration when the estimates for next year are drawn up ■
