:. THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. , i A l ' meeting of the, Wellington. Centre, of the 'New, Zealand Amateur Swimming Association' was •: held at., the . Y.M.C.A. Rooms last evening. Mr. L. W. Ludwig was appoin-ted dele- • gate for. the Nelson' Club,: and was elected to the position- of chairman of-the ceo-. . tre, on the motion ,of , Mr. D. Joslin, seconded by Mr.-T-.-Shields. ■' .' : A. letter was received from the New Zealand Council, stiating that the question of whether'R. Healy's performances: should be-recognised as New Zealand champion l performances had not; yet. been considered. - -/ ■ i '-I. ■.' \ ~ :"; It: was decided that tho centre should moke a donationof 21s. to any club putting on. a life saving event. , • It was'also resolved that, as the New Zealand, Council had done nothing in regard .to the centre's protest; against, the next New " championship meeting being: practically promised to Wanjauui, Wellington .would not nominate any men . for' this year's " championships, • which are to be held; at. Auckland." .... : ".-Messrs.-A. ,W. Smith, '.and A. - Frith (Thorndon)"and' Messrs. A. A. Somerville and-T. Shields (Te Aro) were appointed to act as supervisors for the swimming- for fsdhoolboys 1 '.proficiency certificates.: . . It was pointed out that the''T.M.C.A Club ' had refused. to -allow- a' !:certain' "swimmer .to take part in a raeo on Saturday, because he was . alleged to. be"' a professional.' The information supplied to the club was .not definite, and the opinion was expressed that the swimmer should have been allowed to 6vtim under protest.: 'Si-noe ;the:,meeting.'it" had .been found that the, alleged breach of the amateur roles dated back to 1887, since which time the .swimmer . had been identified with the amateur sport' It was recommended .that', the Y.JLC.A. Cliib should forward -the swimmer.; in question a letter explaining - the position.
