CANTERBURY PASTORAL RUNS.
EERMS 03? LEASE EXTENDED. Christchurch, January 6. Tho Land Board at its meeting to-day passed the following resolution:—"That tho inspection, classification, and subdivision of the pastoral runs in the Canteibury land district, which will revert to the Crown in March, 1911, not having been completed in time to permit of disposal of the runs on tho duo date, the board is of opinion that an extension of time-should bo, granted tho Classification Commissioners, so as to ensure" complete and thorough classification of the runs; and that his Excellency the Governor be recommended to give tho present lessees of the rnns tempoiary grazing licenses for a period of one year from March 1, 1911, m terms of Section 255 ef the Land Act, 1908."
HARBOUR OPERATIONS. RECORD YEAR. Timaru, January 6. The Harbour Board returns for 1909 show a record revenue, of £28,582, and of import and oxport tonnage, 173,u The value of ovorseas exports was £1,202,709, and imports vicre valued at over a quarter of a million. The coastwise exports were not valued, but probably totalled three-quarters of a million. The frowm meat exports amounted to 6a2,00 carcasses—an increase on last year, but less than the total for 1907. In wool, 39,735 bales vicro dispatched, and,331,000 sacks of wheat. Rents from store .sites on tho shingle, trapped by the breakwater, yielded. £1078.
"CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY TRAFFIC. \ ' , • ' Christchurch, January 6. The holiday traffic on the Christchmch tramways from December 31 to January 3 inclusive amountod to 182,110 passengers, and tlio fares totalled J22127| For the corresponding days of last year the figures were:' 164,765 passengers; total fares, .£IBBS. The combined tiaffic for Christmas and New Year shows that for 1909-10 there wero 324,763_ passengers car--1308-9 338,831 passengers, fares' totalling .£3899. HIS FIRST DAY IN WHANGAREI. Whangarei, January 6.'' A negro named Daniels, a notoriously 6ad character, with a long criminal record, was sentenced to six months' and three months' imprisonment (the sentences to run concurrently) on rospecthe eharges of drunkenness, disorderly behaviour, and using obscene language at the railway wharf. .Accused arrived from Auckland by steamer in the morning.
