' Auckland, December 29. TJio Wellington raprcseutatno encket team left Auckland for homo by this evening's Main Trunk express. AUSTRALIAN TOUR FINANCE. Tho "pooling" system lias heen definitely decided upon in connection with the expenses ot tho forthcoming New Zealand tour of an Australian cricketeleven A letter has been ieceivi'd by Mr. M; B. Vance, secretary of tho Wellington Cricket Association, from the New Zealand Cricket Council, m Christchurch, stating that tho council had resolved to ask for guarantees of XIOO ,/from the larger associations, at Auckland, Wellington, Chnstchurch, and Dunedin, and tor smaller guarantees from other associations participating in tho tour. The profit (or loss) would bo divided m proportion to tho'amounts contributed. The Wellington association, remembering past experiences, expressed a fixed determination not to countenance this scheme, and a meeting of tho association will be held shortly to discuss tho relations of the association vrith the council. It is understood that tho Auckland, Wanganui, Hawko's Bay, and Marlborough Associations take up a similar attitude to that of the Wellington Association. i • THE WELLINGTON REP. TEAM. [To THE EDITOIiJ Sir,—With rcfeienco to the team that is to play against Canterbury on Now Year's Day, 1 think that tho selectors will have to consider both Burton and Tayloi of the South team. 'They aro both well up m the averages, being six and seven respectively. Taylor, jit will be remembeied, was sixth m Wellington tho yew before last, and was well up last year. Ho is also a firbt-tlass slip, so that'l think that both these players have earned their places in a icpiesentative tcanrr being the most consistent bats in Wellington at the picsent time.—l am, ctC " OLD SPORT , Tho annual cricket match between tho Canlorbuiy and Wellington representatives will be commenced on tho Basin Reserve on (Saturday, and will bo continued on Monday and Tuesday.
