.$ MOTOEMAN EXONERATED. Tho adjourned inquest on the bodj of Robert Henry Porker, cook at tW Queen's Prnato Hotel, vrjio was knocked down by a. oar in Maunors Street on Saturday night, December 18,' and died at the hospital from haemorrhage of th» brain, was concluded yesterday in th« Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. G. - Riddoll, S.M. An adjournment had been j inado in order to ascertain particulars ai to tho speed of the car. .Sub-Inspector Norwood appeared for tho police, Mr. T. P. Martin watched proceedings on behalf of tho municipal ' authorities, Mr. Stuart Richardson re. presented the City Tramways Department, and Mr. W. Jones, secretary of tha i Tramway Workers', Union, was also pre* sent. William Alfred James, commission agent, stated that ho was in Manors . Street at tho time of tho accident He , saw tho jar coming along at tho usual speed, and tho gong ™ Goonding. He noticed deceased on tho tramline before , tho car approached, but ho did not see liim knocked down. Tho car pulled up in a length or two. ■ Lncoy Wallace, horse trainer, of Miramar, who also saw tho accident, stated that deceased appeared to have had a few drinks. Ho seemed ito walk right into tho car, and the side of tho car struck him. Tho speed of tho car would not be more than six miles an hour, and s. tho gong was sounding continuously. Tha car was slowing up before it touched deceased,'and witness would say that th» motorman did all ho could to avert the uocident.
