W. .M'Ewan) has writton to Sir Joseph Ward on tho subject of tho proposed traniwny loan. : - In tho course of his lottor, Mr. M'Ewan states that, as it will tako some tinio beforo tho administrative machinery of tho new Finance Bill can bo put into operation, he would like some assurance that the money will bo available, so that tho ratepayers may be properly acquainted with tho position -bcforo a poll is taken, ACCIDENT AT HUTT. A painful accident befel a young man named Alfred Hoyd, employed by Mr.'Simpson, carrier, of Lower Hutt, yesterday- morning. While driving a pair of horses attached to a van loaded with grain down tho Railway Avenue, Hoyd somehow slipped, and tho vehicle passed over his left leg, causing a compound fracture. He was promptly removed to his. home, and after receiving medical-aid, was sent on to Wellington Hospital. • . • A'CHEISTMAS CONCERT. Last evening, at the Petono United Methodist Church, a Christmas concert was givn by the Berhampore Baptist choir and Wellington singers. Two choruses from the "Messiah" . and an anthem, "How Lovely are the Messengers" (Mendelssohn) -were given by the choir, and were well received. Items were also given by the Misses' Grace Ewen, Mabel Peek, L. Osborne, Mrs. Bott, Messrs. Stubbs, Nees, Hill, Porter, Osborne, and Kelly. Mr. J. W. Duncan acted as organist,- and Mr. H. Gladstone Hill conducted.- . JOTTINGS. . Lieutenants Hollard and Butler, of Petonc, are leaving on Christmas Eve for Wnnganui,' to tako part in the Eifle Association. meeting there. .'■'..' ■ ■ ■ • ■ , At next Thursday's, meeting, of the Petone Borough Council, Councillor List will move:— "That the. minute relating to Mr; P..Home's payment-for holidays bo rescinded, .and that Mr. Horno receive-payment for nil , statutory holidays as asked for in his last application.-' ■ Yesterday morning the members.'of the Hutt Eiver Board visited : the Mudgwaj Estate in connection with the resolution passed at the last meeting of the board. The outcome of the inspection will bo mado known at next meeting. Christmas Day will bo observed by tho Petone ~Post Office as a closo holiday.
