Dr. Poniare has gone up the river to HirUhararaa in consequence of a report received of a typhoid epidemio, which may mean a postponement of a big Maori gathering which was to ; havo been held there at Christmas. '• Considerable comment has been aroused by the resignation of the matron of Wanganui Orphanage, who took the stop on account of what' she alleged .vis. tho illegal punishment of one of her-charges, by his schoolmaster. She complained to the Orphanage Committee; who ignored the complaint whereupon sho resigned end the committee then accepted her resignation "with regret."
