INSOBRIETY. Two first offenders wore convicted on charges of drunkenness, and lined 5s each, with the I option of 21 hours. Mary Rooney, with one previous conviction agaiwt her name, pleaded guilty to a charge ol diunkennes", and was faned 10s, with the option of 48 hours' imprisonment Lizzie Gilhbc, ■»ho had been twice previously convicted on chili ges of drunkenness, and described as an old offcndei, was convicted on a charge ol drunkenness, to which she pleaded guilty, and fined 20s, or, in default, a uook in prison. With ono previous conwetibn against his name, George Gray pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, cud was fined 10s, with the option of 48 houit, in prison Gornld Ottirson, who did not appear, was conuctod on a charge of drunkenness, and faned 10s, with tho option of 24 liburs' imprisonment. Harr) Ivcson, once pioviously convicted, pleaded guilty to n. charge o£ having been drunk, and was convicted and fined 10s, with tho option ot 48 hours' imprisonment. * Edward Collins alias Edward Donovan, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been drank in Manners Street on Docember 11, and was connoted and ordered to pay 17b. Gd, costs of curative treatment, or, in delault, undergo 48 hourt>' imprisonment.
OTHER CASES. ' ■ To a charge of-having been drunk and disorderly in Taranaki Street on December 18, James Loich pleaded guilty, and was convicted and fined 405., with tho option of seven days' imprisonment. Ho denied having used indecent language on that occasion, but v the charge was proved, and ho was convicted asd fined 405., with' the option of fourteen days' , imprisonment. Thrco months' imprisonment was tho punishment meted out to Duncan M'Call, a farm labourer , -'from the Wavorlcy district, for a rather serious offenco on Thorndon Esplanade on Saturday last. A young man named William M'Mahon was oharged with having Criminally assaulted a littlo girl under four years of age, at Kilbirnie. on December 16. Mr. Jackson, who appeared for the accused, asked for and was granted a remand until Wednesday, December 22, bail being allowed at .£25, and ono surety of a similar amount, x
