VANCOUVER SERVICE
A NEW ZEALAND CALL CANADA AGREES.-THE AUSTRALIAN ATTITUDE. EEDEBAL CONTBOL. (By Tehjf«j>h-Prm At>oclnUooH3ot>jTlft>t.l Melbourne, December 20, Tho Control Postal authorities point out, a> a comment on Sir Joseph Ward's recent speech in tho House regarding mail eerviccs, that tho Queensland i Government has now nothing to do with tho. Vancouver service, which has passed ontircly, into tho hands of tho Federal Government. It is added that at one timo Queensland was ready to have tho call at Brisbano discontinued. To discontinue the call at Brisbano and to call at Auckland would not add to tho time between Sydney and Vancouver, and it would lead to reduction in tho cost, OS New Zealand would bear a proportion of tho subsidy. If the steamers called both at Brisbane and Auckland, tho trip would bo lengthened by twenty-four hours. The postal authorities further state that beforo tho expiry of tho term of tho interim agreement (uudor which the present Vancouver service is carried on on a year-to-year bade) an entirely altered service will be considered. Tho Canadian Government has signified that it has no objection to tho steamers' calling at Auckland. ■
