It is stated :that- one' or ' two YMatch' races, in which some hf thfev Australians -will bo 'contestants 'aro likely 'to be arranged shortly to .tako place: on. the Wanganuißiver. At the annual' meeting- of tho Wanganui Swimming Centre Mr. BY M.. Payne was elected president,' Mr. D.M'Farlane vice-president, Mr. N.Aioldsbuvy delegate to New Zealand Association, Mr. G. Larkinj'local consul, Mr, B. C. Smith, 'secretary- ond.-treasurer." It was decided to form a branch-of- the' Royal Life, Saving Society, .and a committee was appoiuted to take charge of the same. ' .' The Wanganui .Technical School students' are showing.an excellent exhibition of tho,past year's work,-which is attracting considerable attention.- There are somo roally*good exhibits in art, applied art; engineering, dressmaking, and millinery. AH but:a few pounds of: the money required for tho school swimming baths at. .Wanganui East is now in hand, or guaranteed.' A;stnrt will bo inado, at tho construction of the bath immediately, and it-.is- oxpected.it will be ready for use on resuming after the holidays. Tho Wanganui Infant School is in a very di-lapidated-and insanitary state,; but - frequent appeals-to the Government, to provide d better building have been unavailing. Tho School Committee to-day, telegraphed to Mr.- Hogan, M.P., asking him to lirgo the matter on-the Government before the session closes, adding, "it is absolutely cruel to allow or -compel children and teachers ,'■ to work' : in'' this hot, weather- in-such an: unwholesome and. inconvenient building." ..
