Tho President of the Local Gcuerpment Board, Mr. John Burn?, has written a preface *_ to a pamphlet published by Jhe "Dnily Chroa- ._ iclo" (Liberal) on the Housing jind Town " Planning Act. In it Mr. Burns declares that tho Act is a better remedy for unemployment: jn the building trades' than auy restrictive n tariffs on timber and other building materials. Addressing his Battersca constituents at a meeting to which admittance was by ticket, Mr. Burns dwelt on tho Government's achieve- '* ribnts on behalf of tho workers, and declared that tho State should prohibit married women ' from working. ° HOME BULE ANP WOMAN SUFFRAGE, j (Rec. Burt and Fonwick, Labour members ' for Mor'peth and Wansack respectively, will seek re-election as Liberals. I Mr. J. A. Pea6e, Chief Liberal Whip, addressing his constituents at Saffron-Walden, said threats had been made in tho eonstitu- ' ency, and in some cases, he had been informed, possibly notice would bo given to certain tenant farmers' and labourers : that if they voted for him they would bo ejected from their holdings and employment. Mr. Keir Hardie, Labour M.P., addressing his constituents at Merthyr-Tydvil, said he was a single Chamber man. If the House of Commons made mistakes, let the people who created it call it to account. "Tho Times" has declared that Sir., Asqujth's proposal would transform the House of JjQrds jnto a dummy Chamber. "The Liberals demand unfettered power for five years to dp what they like. How do they proppsp to get that power, or who will give it, they do not say."
