"THE MESSIAH" AT LOWEE ;HTJTT. • , The Wellington Choral. Society made- an-ex-periment last night, when they visited Lower and gave a periorraancev of, "The Messiah." There was a fairly large audience in the • Drill Hall, though the building was not by any_means fulL In point, of rendering the performance was much the same as that given in Wellington last Friday. The "Amen" chorus was. omitted, and.the accompaniment was supplied .by a grand piano and a chamber organ, which, ot course, could hardly fill the place of the grand-organ or;an orchestra. Since this is- 'their first.' visit to Lower Hutt, and there are special expenses (including the chartering of a special train), in connection therewith,'the society are fully prepared for a financial loss on the performance, but the experiment was made, not.onlyas a trial, but with a view to the; possible attraction of extra performers, who will bo necessary for tho chorus, of "The Dream of Gerontius,": which is to be the society's next production.
