A meeting of the stewards.of the Timaru to Christchurch cyclo road raco was held to-night 'to consider protests against several riders. Aftir evidence, , the matter was discJssed, and it was decided to disqualify two men for accepting a ndo in a motor-car, and also J. , Arnst for accepting paco from R. Arnst, the latter at tho time having ceased to bo a competitor in the race. It was also decided to call on A. B. L. Smith" to show cause uhy he should not bo disqualified for receiving pace (i trom a motor-car. ' f "AN INSULT TO WORKERS."' MEMORANDUM RE PILLAGING. Christchurch, November 29. T}io Canterbury Trades and Labour Council on Saturday nignt received a deputation from tho New Zealand Waterside Workeis' Federation, Tvhich desired to discuss the attitude of / Mr. Justice Sim in a memorandum that ho had inserted is the Auckland Waterside Workers' award with roferonce to pillagod cargo. Tho deputation stated that tho employers had made it appear that all tho pillaging that took place dunng a voyage hali-way round' the globo liad r occurred in Auckland.' The union had no chance of calling rebutting evidence in Court, A petition was in course of preparation for presentation to the Minister ior Labour, asking him to set up a commission to inquire into the whole matter, and tho federation desired tho council to pass a resolution on the subject. Tho following resolution was unanimously carried —"That this council approves tho actibn of the Waterside Workers' Federation, and views the' whole memorandum of the Arbitration' Court attached to Iho Auckland Waterside Workers' award as an unmitigated consuro on, and insult to, the organised workers of-tho Dominion."
