Some dsys ago the "Standard" announced that the British Government has decided to grant .£135,000 towards tho construction of a railway line between Collooney and Blacksod Bay, in Ireland, in, connection with the AllRed Routoi to Australasia. Blacksod Bay is on tho west coast of Ireland, and Collooney which is near Sllgo, is the nearest point on the existing railway to, Dubiin. Tho iunci tion of Blacksod Bay and Collooney would provido a lino almost directly across the island. Tho <xhemo for an All-Red or British lino of steamships on the Atlantic and Pacific was propounded hy Sir Wilfrid Launer before the Impontl Conference oft 1807. A rate of from 18 to 25 knots an hour was to be maintained, and the eervice mas to oonnect Great Britain, Canada, and 'Australia. Subsequently, the suggestion was made that there should be an Atlantic line from Liverpool to Halifax, m summer, and to Quebec- in winter.
