In tho House of Representatives the Minister for Defonco, Mr. Joseph Cook, moved for the approval of the naval defence scheme propared at the recent Imperial Defence Conference, and involving tho creation of an Australian na\ al tinit consisting of one Dreadnought-cruiser, three second-class cruisers, six destroyers, and three submarines. Mr. Cook explained that the question of way 3 and means was left over .for future consideration. The annual cost to Australia for maintenance would be .£750,000, and the total annual cost, including interest and sinking fund, would b0'.£1,250,000.' After the closure had been applied tho motion was carried by 39 votes to 3.
