■•;,■: ;'//. .SUDDEN .DEATH.V 6; ,: , • Mr. Joseph Hicks, chief mechanical engineer of the Wellington Harbour Board, and a lifelong resident of Wellington,.was found dead in his bath, by his wife shortly after 6 p.m.on Saturday. The deceased, who." was apparently in the best of health, had arrived, home at the usual time on Saturday, and-after lunch set about effecting some '.repairs 'to, the hot- water, -..boiler of., the; range,''in'; which' work he was assisted ■ by.; Mr. Frank Hogarth, who resides in tho Bamo' house. The latter stages that Mr. Hicks was;in the best, of hoalth and spirits up till the time ho left him late in tho afternoon;. The,deceaiied. finished the work, cleaned up tho place, and wont off to have a bath at 8 /About fifteen minutes later Mrs. Hicks called out to.him, and receiving no answer and hearing no sound from the bathroom, opened the door and wont in. She discovered Mr. Hicks sitting, in the bath, which contained water, with his head down and his chin resting on Ms breast.' She tried to rouas him up, but failing to do 'so "summoned assistance, and lifted the body out of the bath and into' the bedroom. Tirs. 'M'Gavin : and Boyd, who had. been summoned, tried artificial respiration for; a time, but-without result. ! Death wis due tu heart failure. There will be no inquest;--, ..'.,; '...;. ~;. ■-.■■?;' ,- _Mr. Hicks, who was M years of age, was the only son of the late Mr. Joseph Hicks, for many years officer in charge of; the Harbour Board's weighbridge. : He leaves a widow and a grown-up son, Mr. Eichard Hioks. His. sisters are Mrs. W. G. Skinner, of Caroline Street; Mrs. Williams, of Arthur Street; and Mrs. F. Bishop, of Christchurch. The deceased was a member of tho Waterloo Lodge of Freemasons, had been in ,tho service of the Harbour Board for about quarter of a; century;-and was popular with all who knew' him. PALL FROM A: TRAMCAR; Dunedln, November 14, A labourer named John Finncrty. 19 years of use, met with a serious acciaent last night. He was on ft tramcar,and when the car was near Albuny Street his hat blew off. Finnerty either jumped or fell off the car, and was picked up in an unconscious condition. Ho was taken to the' hospital, but at 5 p.m. today was still unconsoious. Jeremiah Barrows, aged 77, who lives at Ml Ingestre Street, had a nasty fall yestorday and fractured hia leg.' :He was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon. ■''
