This latter business Trill be 'dealt with first. The Wellington. Club's representatives, for the season-will be (subject to such alteration as may bo deemed necessary):— Senior Four: S. Stauden, P.. The committee of the club are to be heartily congratulated on the return to representation in the'senior four, events. The senior combination is one of good material, and" with attentiph;.to the finer points of its work should make a good showing. The junior crew is a splendid one physically. The stroke is on the light sido,, but the other three should'be able to supply, plenty of motive power if-fhow and sinew are'of any avail. On the occasions on which they have been out since their sele'choh, Furness, the Stroke, has been setting them d nice lively clip, and their display has. been such, as to give promise of better things. •Eemy,No: 3, well known as an Oriental forward,, should be able, to drive- away. a. lot of water when he, gets into the swing of hie work. Just at present he is rather rough with it, but the necessary carefulness required for the light boats should cure this. . The, maiden four is also a powerful one, and,':with coaching, shdiild be dangerous. The youths-are not so well known to "Mercury," but.the critics in the club appear to be satisfied .with their appointment, .-. ..... ,'Tho •.committee of the Star. The personnel •of the -senior.,crew is exactly -as anticipated, tlie.only change bpirig that Heffer is placed No. , 3,instead of stroke,, After Little's rowing in the recent club races, this can bo accepted withow; demur, but, at the same' time, the writer would'like to have seen a trial given to Heffer ,n\ tho-stroko seat; "Mercury's" tip for the junior, four..was one out,"Lambert• boing in: cludalinstcad, of Marchant. Lambert proved himself, to bo a good oar in the winning maiden crew of last year, so. cannot be cavilled at. ■It ,may be remembered that when•farecastinE the crews, "shied" at the task of picking the ~ owing tollack''of sufficient data. :.The, Match Cpmmitteo were not in tho happy position of.bfeing able to do this,.and nave made their choice, evidently after a hard struggle. /.The resulting , crew is hard-to sumup, ihe selection, is a bold and unconventional one, and is .one that.may' turn out cither way— '■ it depends on. the men; tbemeelvss. Pye-Smith (str.) has rowod well in senior club races the. last two seasons, Butt and Stansell have shown themselves to be good men on .fixed seats, and,, are powerful andkeen, while Dudley has rowed consistently as a club junior. ; S.-G.
