MR. MASSEY AND FEDERATION.
'■■■■"■.-' HE EXPLAINS HIS POSITION. .The recent..controversy between Mr. IWlds and Mr.: Massey'as to the latter's position in regard to federation was revived in the House Inst night by. Mr. J. C. Thomson, who, in the course of a speech, incidentally remarked that he understood Mr.. Ha6sey had favoured federation. ' . ■-'■ / '. • Mv. Massey,,in reply, said he had no ■ idea as to where Mr. Thomson had got his information. As. a matter of fact, he had taken up the position that the proposal was worthy pf being inquired into: that it should be.dis-. cussed in.Parliament, by the press, and on the platform; and that,it should be looked at fron? every point of view, especially; from .:■'■ the financial standpoint, and-when the.people were educated on the question they should come to the conclusion as to whether it was advisable to .federate. The quotation from a spoecli which he had made was used by Mr. Fowlds, but he would like to point out that the extractwas taken■ \ from • a ■ debate in Committee of Supply. Every member, ho continued, knew that the debates in Committee of Supply were not .fully, reported; in ftv:t, especially in the early hours of the mornings only one-tenth of the debate was reported. That the quotation in question was correct he did not doubt, bnt he had no doubt that it was qualified in such a way as to give,it n different' interpretation from that given, it by Mr. Fowlds. ... . . • •. ■': . ■ ..' ■ ;. /.
