The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr S Greer; president, Mr. H. Akers; hon. secret Alex. Turner; team captain, Mr. W. Kandall; handicapper, Col.-Sergt. Perrin Messrs, Thomson, Church, Wilson, Ponkott! i'inlay and Holton were elected.members. The president referred to tho success of tho club's team, which competed at the Trentham meotmg, ;and heartily congratulated membors on winning'the teams' ohallenge,cup. He also complimented-Rifleman Newth on winning the Greer Cup for the second time. It was arranged to fire a match' with the Palmerston Rifles on a date to bo fixed. Practice will begin to-morrow, and will be continued on Wednesdays . and. .Saturdays.".:'■ The secretary was instructed to forward a lettor of condolence' to tho father, of tho lato Rifleman J. Keunard, who was a prominent member of the club. : At a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu .Employers' Association, it was decided to support the action of the local Chamber of Commerce'in'its endeavour to put a stop to the pillaging, of goods by ship and rail, to Palmerston. It was also decided: to ask tho chamber to inquire into the over and short landing of goods which occurs on tho railways. Eight new roombers were elected. The president (Mr. A._ E. _ Bennett) and. tho socrotary' (Mr. W. M'Kenzio) were appointed delegates to the annual meeting' of tho Employers' Federation/which is to be held on November 17. >
It -was mentioned at the monthly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty.to Juaimals that there had been a total absonco of lamo onddocrepid horses in tho streets since the inspector had commenced operations. Tho following new members were elected:—Messrs. H. Cooper, Goldingham, and Beckett, James Young, G. -M'Carty, and Mrs. M. Porrin. Tho inspector suggested enlisting the sympathies of tho stock auctioneers. ' The committee of the recently-formed Mana. watu Amateur Athletic Club iriet last night. Present: Messrs. Stagpoole. (chairman), Stubbs, Watt, Stalker, Kerslake, Hall, Dickson, O'Connor,'and Robertson. 1 Correspondence was read from.a number of those interested, accepting office and promising donations. It was decided to do everything possible to encourage juvenile sport.' It was also resolved to open tho season with a series of evoning meetings, the hrst of which will be held on November 24, when the programme will be 100 yards flat, half-mile fiat, and long jump. Tho second meeting will be held oh December 7, and ovonts will bo 220 yards fiat, one milo handicap flat, and high jump. • In addition to trophies, a valuable points prize will be awarded. '-.
