THE PROPOSED NEW COUNTY.

' Sir,—l;have just read a copy of. tho resolution, passed by tho Hiitt' County Council in reply to a letter from Mr. W. H. Field, M.P.,- asking :it for-its opinion as to- the . proposed , new,, county movement." For cool cheek,.l must say. I. think it takes the cake! .-Nowj sir,- as your journal is so largely circulnted'in this district, might I ask you ■to '.'publish it,"as'l think''tha. Whareroa ratepayers should know of the monstrous piece' of'injustice.pr'onosed to .bo jaskedof Parliament by tha insertion- of the' clause that there shall be no adjustment of accounts between the. proposed new county' and the county of Hutt;. The following is the resolution: "Tha't the : councillors" and ratepayersgenerally throughout the county, are opposed to the proposed;severance of the Whareroa Biding from the cdunty of Hutt, and to request you 'to use'your besl endeavours to prevent the proposal being given effect to." The matter has also, been referred'to the.chairman, of the council and tho solicitors, to prepare objections and a clause for insertion in' the Bill that • there shall not bo any adjustment of accounts .between tho;'-fpro'posed new count); and the .county' of Hutt..... ' ...
