HUTT AND PETONE NOTES

IProm Out Special nesorloM ■■ ■ ft- •' :'..•■■ . . PETONE ROWING CLUB.' . The elements were not favourable to tho Petono Rowing Club for its opening ; on Saturday. Certainly tho sun shone, but furtively, while the uind blew constantly, and tho 6«a was too rough for tho boota to bo taken out. The consequence was that the opening was mostly a ceremony, mid practically little else.

The season was declared open by tho president of the club, Mr. It. Mothes, who remarked that this was the first occasion for many years on which he had known tho weather to be (Unfavourable. The Petbho Rowing Club, he said, was a progressive body, and, by issuing debentures to its members, had been enabled to purchase three iino new boats. Dr. Newman had said, in opening tho rowing seaton, that they did not venture far enough afield to gain rowing experience. They should send rowers to Australia and tho Old Country, and ho (tho speaker) thought that they had a couple of young members in the club who would be competent to meet any oarsmen that might bo put against them. In.conclusion, Mr. Mothes thanked tho members of city clubs who had come out to help at tho function, . the Navals,' and ex-Navnls, aud tho ketone Band. c . ■ •■.'.■ .."'.'
