: ' 'THE;OLD.BOYS' CLUB/ ~' . . -The thirteenth , annual general meeting of the Wellington Collegei-Old. Boys' Cricket Club was •held .it AriuitVltooms,' and was irell'attended. The •lMlonccTehoef showed, the club to be/in a good-financial position. ' ■ ■ . ■ , The'annual report stated as follows:— . ■.'■Senior eleven for the third year.in succession'won. the championship , and Levin Shield, ■and {the committee-think that but for the ■ adoption by. the Wellington • Cricket' Aesocia'tioiivdf the district ; scheme, the eleven wonld ■'have retained its proud position for ' some seasons. to come.. Though the junior 'eleven -performed well during the season, and were the only, tenm-in the-competition to. beat the winners,''they did. not.'occupy as high a . positron ' as.: they - perhaps should have, 'owing .'principally to lack of keenness amongst mem■bers. The third and fourth elevens enjoyed averygood season,'but lack of members, proved somewhat of a handicap to the latter eleven. A smoke concert was held-on April 7to celebrate the winning of the senior championship, '■and proved a success, both financially and socially. During the evening, opportunity was 'taken to present to- Mr. E. Sloan' the' trophy donated by Mr. 11. 0. Barnett, to the ployer taking most catches during the season! The ■ annual .match with the college was played on .November 9, the College eleven ; proving successful after a very enjoyable game. Messrs. Tucker, Monaghan,' J. P: Blacklock, C. F. Blacklock, Beechey and Mason, are to, be. congratulated on having been chosen - to represent in inter-provincial matches during the season. The best thanks'; of the 'club are due to Messrs.. M. C. Barnett, W. E. Bethune, J. P. iFirth, and Dr. Martin for donations.',. . "■.. ... ' .'■.■■'.
For sentimental reasons, the club has decided to retain its identity to some extent.. It was, decided at the meeting .that:the club shall continue.in existence; for the purpose, amongst other things, of playing the Old Boys of other colleges, and of keeping, up the annual matches that have heretofore been.played against Masterton and Nelson, and that '■ the rules -be amended' 1 accordingly; Tho necessary honorary officers were elected for toe purpose of carrying on tho .club. ' It was felt by the. meeting that the carrying of the.'district scheme hit this young club particularly hard, and it was with ftelings of,, regret that the' various players, ■recognised that they were, by the adoption of this, scheme; prevented from playing, sidt by ..side,in the various, cup competitions for the honour of their, club and their, old.school.. -'.'. •. \ .'
