■ OPENING' DAY ARRANGEMENTS. '' ; 'ARRIVAL OF. MEMBERS. ;;.The opening of Parliament;to-morrow afternoon will bo performed by His Excellency the Governor precisely; in tho' traditional way. The Governor will drive:from the vice-regal office'in 'Molesworth/Street, to the Legislative Council Chamber, where he will arrtvo at 2.30 p.m.',' The Royal New Zealand Artillery will furnish : the guard of honour to His Excellency, and also, the firing party for the Royal salute, while tho Herotannga Mounted Rifles .will:furnish the escort. .The Garrison Band j>t o naval detachment from H.M.S. Prometheus will also parade at tho opening ceremony. .As won ; as. His Excellency' haa : taken the chair in the Legislative Council Chamber, a Message, will bo forwarded to the House of Reprcsontativea : desiring the attendance of members m that Chamber. Upon their arrival His Excellency will deliver his customary Speech, which will refer to the recent Defenco Conference, and defence, and other legislative proposals .which the Government will brine forward during the session. The : members of the-House of Representatives will then return, to their own' Chamber, and it is probable that in both' Houses resolutions will be .'adopted with reference, to the. late Mr, Kcmingtoh member for Rangitikei,. and that adjournments will take place until.the following day out of .respect, to his memory. , ... ;. In view, of tho defioiont accommodation in the Legislative Council Chamber no privilege .tickets are being issued in connection with the opening function. Lady Plunket, being, in the fouth,,,-will- he unable tp ottond, but Lndy Ward and Mrs. Findlay will be present on the floor of the Chamber, and no doubt a number ot the Wives of legislators will also find admittance. The remainder of the public will have to be contented with the view of the Governor's, arrival, attended by his military escort . It is expected that Mr.. Smith, the new'membei forßangitikei, as tho most recent member of the House of Representatives, will movo tha Addross-in-Roply to the Governor's Speech in that Chamber. . .
Tho Hon: C. Louisson, M.L.C., and Mewrs /Colvin;(Buller), Soddon:. (Westland),. Hanan Invercareill). Dive (Egmont), and , M'Donald (Bay of Plenty), members of the Houso of Representatives, arrived in town yesterday. The Hon.-A: E. Guinness (Speaker) and Sir. W. F ■Maesey(Leader of tho Opposition) will arrive to-day. ..... It is'not expected that Parliament will sit 0,1 Saturdays or Mondays during tho early part of tho sessioh.' Tho Government • states that all its reports, returns, and other documents will bo ready to bo dealt with as soon as tho session has begun.
